Peter Mitchell, MD

I have known since I was an undergraduate student at UCLA that I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. I love the mix of biology and biomechanics and how we get to help people return to functional, productive lives.

I am a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon and limit my practice to various foot and ankle disorders. I have been practicing in the valley since 1999. I enjoy treating a wide variety of conditions, from professional, college, and high school athletes with sports related injuries, to everyday people who may have sustained an injury or condition long ago and now have a degenerative problem such as arthritis. I also enjoy helping people with foot and ankle fractures, bunions, and acute and chronic tendon and ligament problems.

I believe in conservative care first, but, when necessary, will perform minimally invasive techniques or more traditional procedures as indicated.

I am currently the Foot and Ankle Consultant to Ballet Arizona and was the Foot and Ankle Consultant to the Arizona Diamondbacks for 15 years and the Arizona Cardinals for 3 years. In that capacity I have treated many athletes from Major League and Minor League Baseball, the National Football League and the National Hockey League. Whether you are a professional athlete or not, you will receive the same excellent level of care from my staff and me.

Additionally, Dr. Mitchell attended undergraduate and medical school at UCLA, graduating from both with honors. His orthopedic surgery training took place at the University of Washington, known nationally for it’s foot and ankle, and orthopedic trauma training. He stayed in Seattle to complete a Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship. He then began practice in San Francisco, caring for the San Francisco Ballet and instructing residents at San Francisco General in orthopedic traumatology. He then moved to Arizona in 1999 to be closer to his wife’s family. Dr. Mitchell enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, skiing, swimming, biking and fishing.
