OrthoArizona Keeping Student Athletes Safe on the Field
Through a joint sports medicine program between OrthoArizona and Dignity Health, Gilbert High School athletes are benefitting from comprehensive sports screenings to keep them healthier and safer on and off the field.
According to OrthoArizona sports medicine specialist Dr. Brett DeGooyer, “At the college level, student athletes have official team docs taking care of the team, as well as onsite athletic trainers and even a network of sub-specialists. Our program mimics that for the high school level athlete.”
Students are encouraged to attend the sports physicals offered by OrthoArizona and Dignity Health, pay the $25 fee, and get a comprehensive exam that includes screening for orthopedic, cardiac, and neurological issues. Orthopedic issues are addressed onsite by OrthoArizona orthopedic surgeons and athletic trainers from Dignity Health while student athletes are referred to cardiac specialists, if necessary.
