Eric Varley, D.O.

Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Dr. Eric Varley, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine deformities for both pediatric and adult patients.  Dr. Varley has comprehensive training in minimally invasive spine surgery, traditional reconstructive techniques and surgical revision procedures.

Dr. Varley’s philosophy is to be of service to needs of each individual patient. This approach is a Doctor-Patient collaboration focused on determining the most appropriate treatment that honors the meaningful activities of that person’s life.  He looks forward to bringing a compassionate, evidence-based approach to all patients he has the privilege to care for.

Dr. Varley has a deep interest in research, education and global outreach.  His dedication to advancing spine care is reflected in more than 15 peer-reviewed journal articles, dozens of presentations at national & international meetings, and multiple book chapters.  He is profoundly grateful to have trained with some of the best surgeons in the world through his NIH training award in spinal deformity research as well as serving on multiple mission trips to Africa and South America.

Dr. Varley appreciates learning new things and is an avid reader as well as traveler.  He grew up spending every summer on his family farm in Michigan and loves being outdoors. This love brought him to Phoenix where he enjoys trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, and backcountry backpacking & skiing. He shares this passion for adventure with his wife and two children.  When not enjoying time outside with his family, he has a deep personal commitment to global spine outreach and lectures nationally and internationally on spine care.
