Dr. Porter is an expert in rotator cuff surgery, shoulder replacement, knee ligament reconstruction, arthroscopic treatment of joint injuries, and orthobiologics. Dr Porter is one of the most experienced orthopaedic surgeons in Arizona in these particular treatments.
Arthroscopic Repair of the Rotator Cuff
The vast majority of injuries of the rotator cuff can be repaired using a tiny video camera and tiny instruments through small cuts in the skin. Arthroscopy allows better visualization of the tear, thus allowing anatomic, tension free repair. This allows faster healing and excellent outcomes with return to sports and everyday activities.
Reverse Shoulder Replacement
Shoulder replacement surgery is highly effective in relieving pain due to arthritis of the shoulder. Some shoulders develop arthritis due to a severely injured rotator cuff that cannot be repaired. A special type of shoulder replacement, called a reverse shoulder replacement, can be done to relieve pain and improve function in shoulders with large irreparable rotator cuff tears.
Arthroscopic Ligament Reconstruction of the Knee
Arthroscopic surgery, which uses a tiny video camera and instruments, is used to repair or reconstruct severe ligament and cartilage injuries in the knee. These minimally invasive surgical techniques allow for faster, less painful healing and early rehabilitation. This has become the standard of care for the treatment of knee injuries including ACL and PCL tears as well as cartilage injuries of the knee.
Joint Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique using a tiny video camera and tiny instruments to repair or treat a broad variety of injuries or disorders of the joints. This technique is used to treat problems of the shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle and hip. Treatment of injuries of the joints through tiny cuts in the skin allows for faster healing and recovery, early rehabilitation and a relatively quick return to a healthy active lifestyle.
Orthobiologics
Orthobiologics is a new and exciting technique in orthopaedics that injects your own growth factors into the injured area of your body to promote your bodies natural healing response. This technique helps the body heal both acute and chronic injuries of the tendons, ligaments, and bones naturally. Dr. Porter is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in Arizona with expertise in this innovative treatment. This is how it works: Serum, rich in growth factors is drawn from your own blood and treated to isolate these natural growth factors. The growth factors, can then be injected into the injured or inflamed tendon or ligament, or surgically placed at the site of repair. This increased concentration of growth factors, at the site of the injury, stimulates a natural healing response. An added bonus is a noticeable decrease of pain at the site of treatment. This treatment can be used during surgery or in some cases injected at the site of injury during an in- office procedure.
