About Dr. Hawkins
Dr. James Hawkins is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions of the back, neck, leg, and arm pain related to pathology in the spine. He has extensive training in minimally invasive, decompressions, and fusion involving the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine in a wide range of patients.
Dr. Hawkins sees patients that have differing lifestyles, from athletic to active to sedentary people, both young and old. His goal is to deliver patient-focused care in a timely manner and respectful fashion, and he looks forward to bringing his approach to all patients he has the privilege to care for.
Dr. Hawkins’ extensive training began in a unique way, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering. He later attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, moving on to completing his orthopedic residency at Valleywise Health Medical Center and a fellowship at SpineCare, San Francisco Spine Institute. Before joining OrthoArizona, he was a part of organizing and developing a comprehensive spine care center at the Phoenix VA medical center, combining the efforts of physical therapy, interventional pain management, chronic pain providers, primary care providers, and more to provide both operative and nonoperative care to veterans suffering from spine-related problems.
Outside of his role as a doctor, Dr. Hawkins enjoys being active with sports and recreational activities with family including fishing, travel, and hiking.
