About

About Dr. Hippensteel

Dr. KJ Hippensteel is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip, knee, elbow, and shoulder surgery. He provides care by prioritizing a patient-centered approach and tailoring treatment to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Hippensteel is a former athlete himself, an NCAA champion at Stanford who spent six years on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour. During his career, he underwent orthopedic surgery and this experience led to his excitement about this field, specifically sports medicine. He uses his history with surgery to be empathetic toward each patient’s experience and guides them through each step of their injury.

Dr. Hippensteel attended medical school at Duke University in North Carolina, where he also completed a general surgery internship. He then underwent his orthopedic surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Then, Dr. Hippensteel committed to an additional year of training completing an orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. During his training, Dr. Hippensteel worked with many teams, including the New York Mets, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and the former St. Louis Rams. He is excited to join OrthoArizona after seven years of practice in the United States Navy, where he finished his military career at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the "President's Hospital."

Outside of his practice, Dr. Hippensteel enjoys tennis, baseball, hiking, and skiing as well as spending time with his family.
