About
About Dr. Burnham
Dr. Robert Burnham Jr. is a fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon specializing in total joint and general orthopaedics. He treats various ailments of the hip and knee in adults. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Dr. Burnham treats a myriad of conditions, including but not limited to hip and knee arthritis, failed hip and knee replacements, and general orthopaedics. He has extensive training in robotic joint replacement. He specializes in partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, and anterior approach total hip replacement. For knee replacement, he utilizes a sub-vastus approach, which is a minimally invasive, muscle-sparing approach. For hip replacement, he uses a direct anterior approach, which is also a minimally invasive muscle-sparing technique. With the ability to provide minimally invasive muscle-sparing techniques, he believes that his patients are able to have an enhanced recovery process with less postoperative pain and quicker recovery.
As an orthopaedic surgeon, patient care is always at the forefront of Dr. Burnham’s mind, and he believes that each and every patient should be treated as if they were his own family. He believes that each patient should have a thorough understanding of their specific condition and be able to choose what the best treatment option is tailored to their specific needs and goals.
Dr. Burnham has already contributed to several peer-reviewed research articles, including work on contralateral knee range of motion after total knee replacement, artificial intelligence in hip implant identification, determining the learning curve of anterior approach total hip arthroplasty after fellowship, and many more.
He is the recipient of the Schwartz Internship & Traveling Fellowship Award, which is given to one graduating chief resident at Loyola Medical Center to pursue a 4- to 6-week experience to enhance learning regarding individual practice plans or humanitarian value.
Outside of the office, Dr. Burnham enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and hiking. He particularly enjoys traveling to other countries to experience the food, culture, and meeting new people.
