PHOENIX – After suffering catastrophic burns to the majority of her body, Hitaxi was put in a medically induced coma for months and underwent hundreds of soft tissue procedures including extensive skin grafting. Upon her survival and medical recovery, she had significant lower extremity and upper extremity contractures and was told she may never live independently or walk again due to her injuries. Hitaxi wanted to explore her options and needed to consult a foot and ankle specialist.

About Dr. Jaffe
Dr. David Jaffe is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. He treats patients of any age for any complaint below the knee.
Dr. Jaffe believes in treating patients on an individual basis and coming up with a treatment plan that best suits each patient’s personal goals. He searches for nonoperative or conservative treatment options prior to proceeding with any invasive procedure. His goal is to find any treatment necessary to give the best possible functional results to his patients.
Dr. Jaffe has treated patients of all ages for anything that may bother them regarding their foot and ankle, including but not limited to sports injuries, sprains, fractures, arthritis, bunions, hammertoes, tendon injuries, or deformity. He has a particular interest in revision surgery and complex ankle replacement. He also has a multidisciplinary approach and is team-focused specifically on limb salvage and complex Ilizarov frame reconstructions.
After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Delaware, Dr. Jaffe attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Following medical school, Dr. Jaffe joined the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Maryland/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery and had the honor of being elected administrative chief resident. Dr. Jaffe then continued his training by completing a foot and ankle fellowship program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Jaffe’s clinical and scientific research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, and he continues to pursue a research interest in functional outcomes after foot and ankle surgery.
